How can I set up a numeric entry question where the answer is equal to a variable?

Jun 25, 2019

Hi everyone, I'd really appreciate some help with this, and my apologies in advance if this is a "noob" question...

I'm building science quizzes for high school students, some of which involve calculations.  What I'm trying to do is to have the correct answer to a numeric entry question be equal to a variable, but I can't seem to work out how to do this.

For example, let's say I'm asking the following question:

"The current through a resistor is %current% amps and its resistance is %resistance% ohms, what is the voltage?"

In this question, the variables current and resistance are random number variables, and the correct answer will be equal to the value of another variable voltage (where voltage = current * resistance).

How do I set a question like this up in storyline 360?

Many thanks in advance for any help with this anyone out there could provide.

Hi Phil, thank you for your very prompt reply.  I've created the variables current, resistance and voltage, and I can see the variable NumericEntry under "manage project variables".

However, could you please clarify for me how I would do the following;

1 - how do I set up a trigger to make the value of the variable voltage equal to the value of (current*resistance)?

2 - how do I then swap the NumericEntry variable with the voltage variable (so that the question is only marked correct if what the student enters is equal to the value of the voltage variable) - is this done with another trigger?

Again, I'm very inexperienced with this, so forgive my obvious questions!

I've attached this question if it's easier for you to edit it rather than explain in your reply.

Thanks again for your kind help.
