How could I filter out course slides based on pre-test quiz results?

May 12, 2017

I am hoping to build a course that will test learners before they begin learning anything.

Based on the results of the quiz, I would like to filter out the topics that they had no problem answering, in order to keep the course as relevant as possible - leaving more time to focus on any parts they struggled with.

Is there an efficient way of doing this in Storyline?

Yes, for sufficiently broad definitions of efficient. The hard part is in the planning, like always. You need to decide what are the appropriate levels for skipping which topics. After that, it is easy to set 1 (or most likely) several variables to indicate which topics to skip.

At the end of topic 1, for example, there would be a trigger to advance to topic 3 if the variable indicated that topic 2 should be skipped, AND it would be followed by a trigger to jump to topic 2, for those who can't skip it.

Here's a quick mock-up of one way to do it.
