How do I create a software simulation where multiple steps are possible?
Jan 25, 2015
Hello,
I am trying to use Storyline 2 to create an eLearning program that teaches people how to use some new software. Since the software is very user friendly, I want to give the learners the chance to try completing a specific task using the software without seeing a demo first. If they get this correct they can move on, without having to watch the demo. Sounds easy enough except that there are three different ways they can complete the task all of which are correct.
I have are tried to do this by inserting multiple hotspots on the opening screen that connect to different branches, but when I attempt to play the simulation only one of the hotspots seems to work.
Is it possible to create a simulation where three actions are possible? If so, can you please indicate how?

Hi Fay
are you using the Record screen function of SL2 or you have a created a simulation outside (like in Captivate) that you have added to SL?
Do you want to upload the .story file - happy to take a look for you.
Hi Fay
here is a sample I just did in SL2 using the Record Screen function. On the first screen, the original hotpot was on the Insert tab, I added a hotspot to the Reference tab and it works.
You'll need to muck around with hint captions etc, and also update your triggers to cover both hotspots.
Hope this helps

Hi Wendy,
Thanks for your response!! It is much appreciated.
In response to your first question, am recording using the Record Screen function.
Thanks for sending the recording. I will play around with what you have created as I think this might work. At the moment if you click on the Reference tab the recording still goes to the same recording as the insert tab, but I think I will be able to get it to work.
Thank you!
Hi Fay
yep that's what I meant - I can get two hotspots to work on one screen but you will need to reconfigure hint captions etc to allow for both options.
Good luck
Hi Fay,
It looks like Wendy has you covered here, but please let us know if you need anything else.
