I am new to Storyline and I am working with Storyline 360. My question is; I have a menu page and I want a checkmark to turn green after the student finishes each chapter. I also have a submenu that I want to have checkmarks by each section in a chapter to turn green when a student finishes the section. I am not sure how to arrange everything so it all works. If anyone can help me out and point me in the right direction I would appreciate it. If someone has a sample they can show me that would be great.
Would you mind detailing a bit more the flow of your project? Does somebody just need to view each slide/chapter to have it marked as complete?
If so you can work with states on your menu sections to have a normal and checked state. Then at you can set up a trigger that changes the state of the section to 'checked' say when the 'Next' button is clicked on that chapter or the timeline reaches its end.
If you are willing to share your .story file this would be helpful.
Articulate has a great tutorial, inclusive of a video and practice files which will walk you through both how to work with states as well as how to set up triggers to change them. You can find this here.
I think the buttons state changes to selected when you click it. The trigger to set the button to completed only fires when the timeline of the page starts. When you open and close a layer the timeline doesn't restart.
What you can do is to copy the trigger to set the chapter one button to completed to the slide layer.
Thanks for popping in to share a solution Mark. Normally we assume these will help people that find the conversation in the future, but it looks like Richard will get to benefit from this as well :)
Ok I guess I am not understanding what Mark was trying to tell me. So if someone can take a look at my example course and make the changes in it because I learn better that way then when someone tells me how to do it that would be great.
What I am trying to do is get the Chapter one on the menu to show a checkmark when all of the sections have been completed. As you can see my checkmarks for the sections work great. The problem is getting the checkmark to show up on the chapter one box.
Hi there, Richard! I made two small changes to your file.
I changed the trigger to close the submenu layer from "hide this layer" to "jump to slide 1.1."
I changed the trigger to change the state of the Chapter One rectangle based on when the timeline of the slide starts, and not the timeline of the rectangle:
A quick note -- I added buttons to change the section variables just to make it quicker to test. Let me know if that works for you!

There's a sample here: https://community.articulate.com/discussions/articulate-storyline/free-sample-restricted-and-free-random-navigation-using-variables-and-triggers
Walt, this is great! Thank you so much for sharing and the effort in building this out.

Thanks Mark!
I will give that a try!

Thank you Crystal it works great!
For me I learn better if I can see how it is done and works rather than have someone tell me how
to do it. Somethings anyway.
