How do I hide or display objects in a scroll panel based on specific conditions?

I'm building a simulation of a app that displays a warning icon after submitting changes to a list of customers.
Because the list is too long, I've placed it in a scroll panel, which works fine.
After I submit any updates, I want to display an icon next to the customer's name, indicating that changes have been made to that customer record, and any other changes made will overwrite the previous one.
I know I can do this through showing a new layer, but the additional layer(s) do not move up and down with the scroll panel layer - so how can I include it in the scroll panel layer, with a hide/display condition, maybe changing the icon's transparency or something based on a condition of when a customer's info has been modified?

Hi M,
Here's a quick mockup of an example that uses buttons to trigger object state changes inside a scrolling panel.
