How do I hide the Normal state when hovering?

Jun 07, 2014

Hi, I'm new to Storyline and would love a little help! I've created some menu options, which when you hover over them them, appear in a slightly different colour and size. When I preview it, it still displays the normal layer underneath.

I've tried adding a white box behind my images on the hover state - as if to hide the normal state. I've also tried Bring to Front on the Hover state, all to no avail.

The size increase isn't the problem either as I have tried it on a different course where they stay the say size but the same thing happens - I still see both the hover state and the normal state behind it!

Thanks

Sally, I've played with your menu for a little while (Nice book shelves!) and I'm stumped about exactly why SL is showing the text of the Normal state when you hover.  But, I've always found SL's text formatting to be unpredictable.  This is probably because I don't understand some parameter or setting, but be that as it may, messing with variations of text in the states is asking for trouble, imho.  The trouble may come because you have rotated your rectangles and so the text needs to be rotated as well.

What I would do is make a simpler change for the hover state.  Add a shadow, or a glow, or a simple color change.  If you must change the size of text, then copy and paste as a picture in the state.

Probably smarter heads than mine can pinpoint the cause of the trouble.

I realize this is an old thread, but stumbled upon it as I was trying to do the same thing as Sally. I figured out how to make the hover/visited/down state hide the normal state attributes, including text.

I used images instead of the buttons and icons native to Storyline. The state is attached to the image of the button. Works beautifully! :)

I've attached an example.
