I have a contents page, but I would like the user to be able to click on each heading within the contents page so they can skip to the page they need to.
How do I turn text, or a box into a link to another slide?
You may add a trigger in the object you are using - in your case the textbox or the box shape of your content headings, and set the trigger to Jump to your target slide.
I attached a picture file to illustrate this point.
P.S.: If your new concern is not related to this current thread, I would suggest you create a new post, to properly document it, and so other users may search properly the new title (if ever they run into a similar issue). Then I'll try to reply on the new post :) Thanks!

Also this article on triggers could help.

Please let me know if you need more clarification.
