How do the Updates affect .story files?

Jul 02, 2013

Hello,

I'm looking for some clarification regarding how the Updates impact .story files. I'm trying to identify and resolve several completion and freezing issues that have been reported by a small segment of my users.  From what I've seen from the SCORM interactions and/or directly from user's seems to indicate that some issues address in Update 3 may not be fully resolved, unless the Updates do not work the way I assumed.

Most of the courses in question were originally built in an earlier version of Storyline (pre-Update 3).  All of the courses were published for an LMS as SCORM 1.2 no-HTML 5 using Storyline Update 3.

My initial assumption was that the courses would receive all the improvements and/or fixes that Update 3 provided when they were published from a Storyline Update 3 installation.

If this assumption is incorrect, can someone please clarify for me, what the steps that I or another developer would need to make to ensure that the .story files always take advantage of the most recent Update (e.g. import the old .story file into a new .story file).

Thank you,

Stephen

Hi Nicole,

Thank you for your response, but I do not believe it answers my question.  What I'm trying to determine if is that if I built a course that uses a Results slide in Update 2, update my version of Storyline and then publish the course using Update 3, is if the Results slide is going to behave as the patch notes would indicate for Update 3, or I need to "rebuild" the results slide in Update 3 to take advantage of the fixes.

For example, from the patch notes:

  • Fixed issue where the score would change to 0 when exiting and resuming on the result slide
  • The courses I'm having problems with were published using Update 3, which should resolved the above issue. However, I have received reports where users who have exited out on the Results page (course marked incomplete) and resumed saw a 0 for their score, which would indicate that the problem isn't fixed and I need to bring that to your attention.

Or it's possible that the updates don't work the way I expect them to work in which case I need to pass this along to my co-workers to ensure that we re-build critical pages post-updates.

    Thank you,

    Stephen
