How Do You Add a Blank Results Slide’s Title to the Course Menu?

Mar 23, 2021

Hello,

I’ve created a SL module with a Pre and Post Knowledge Check. I do not want the learner to see their Pre score until the second Results slide, so I created a blank result slide that contains other course content and a different slide title. The menu does not list this slide (it goes from slide 1.6. to 1.8). Is there a way to configure the menu so this slide’s title is displayed along with the other non-Results slides? Thanks.

Hi, John,

The built-in Menu doesn't show Results slides. I assume SL was built that way to prevent users from accessing Results before answering the related questions.

Fortunately, there is a workaround.

  • Insert a decoy slide right before the Results slide. This could be blank, or it could be set up to look like part of the Results slide (for example, show the title and any other master elements).
  • Make the official title of the decoy slide "Results," or whatever title you want to appear in the Menu. (You might also want to rename the real Results slide, for example, "actual Results").
  • Add a trigger to the decoy Results slide that automatically advances to the next slide (that is, the actual Results slide) when the timeline starts.

Do that, and when you reset the Menu, the new "Results" slide will appear in the Menu. And if the user clicks on it in the Menu, the program will go to the new slide but  then immediately advance to the actual Results.

Note: Be aware that this impacts the PREV button on the actual Results slide. If the user clicks "Results" in the Menu and then clicks PREV on the actual Results slide, the "jump to previous slide" trigger would go to the decoy Results slide, which would then immediately return to the actual Results. You could try to program around that, or just let it go as an unlikely scenario...

Best wishes.
