How do you view answers to Survey/Essay Questions?

Sep 08, 2014

Hi all, new to Articulate so please be patient with me. A scan of other articles hasn't given me any real insight in to this question.

We want to incorporate a Short Answer/Essay question type, from the Survey bank, but it doesn't matter really where from. Question is, how do I review what the student has written? Articulate SCORM only offers results of Pass/Fail & Complete/Incomplete with these being further influenced by either the completion of quizzes or progression of slides. I've read there's suggestion that the answers are deployed and accessible within the LMS, but how/where does this occur? A secondary note is our LMS, Blackboard Learn V9.1, SP8. I notice in other forums, such as "which LMS do you use", that Bb is rarely mentioned as a LMS used and then offers poor SCORM integration from those that do :( We do seem to have issues with SCORM with our version, but we have other issues too and I am certain that many aren't necessarily system driven but lack of knowledge, understanding and technical expertise around the system as it is managed in house, although hosted off site by a university... With all that in mind, can I review the essays/short questions as this will assist in determining learner understanding rather than knowledge. Thanks in advance.

Hello Shaun and welcome to Heroes!.

Text Entry Quiz types are reported to LMS, however it is up to them to determine how they will display it.

You may want to look at this blog about how to troubleshoot LMS reporting and tracking issues.

Hopefully someone in the community who is familiar with Blackboard may be able to give a little more insight.

Thank you for your fast responses Alejandro and Emily, some great advice and direction, I really appreciate it.

I expect that it is the LMS side if things that is or will let us down continuously. Our organisation is one that struggles with eLearning and lacks much understanding, and willingness to understand for that matter, in this and associated areas. Our LMS managers are under equipped and lack the essential understanding at times, through no real fault of their own, that we often expect them, whether it is to know or be able to do. It is frustrating as these poor souls do their best to try and sort issues and are undervalued and therefore supported little or not at all. Anyway, we want to assist them so we can use Articulate to produce outstanding products for training/development which may altimately assist the organisation to see how all these things inter-link so closely and these "backend" guys are the glue that actually gets it working and out there via the LMS.

Emily, those links are gold, I will share them with our LMS guys as well as our developers too.

Thanks.
