I currently working on a project where i am asked to track the slide numbers to determine where the user left off i wanted to know how does storyline count its slide and where? After creating a trigger to count the pages and had javascript and JQuery run it it gave me a number usually one less than what i have labeled that slide number as?

Are you looking to track where the user left off to have them resume to that point? If so, Storyline can handle that as detailed here and it's based on browser cookies.
