How hard is Storyline 2 to use for creating e-learning modules versus Articulate 09?

Jan 20, 2016

Hey,

I am looking to put together a proposal at work to upgrade from Articulate 09 to Storyline 2 or Articulate 13. I like what I saw in the demo for Storyline 2, however, my concern is the ease for the creator (myself who is not tech savy). Just wondering how difficult it is to create e-learning modules in Storyline 2?

Its not hard, at all. SL2 is probably the software i would recommend for the least tech-savy person.

Its one step above PowerPoint.

The nice thing about SL2 is that it is incredibly easy to use for basic module building, and if you get more "tech-savy" and dive a little deeper, SL2 offers a lot of advanced features to really push your modules to the next level.

There is a "ceiling" to what it is capable of reaching, as far as advanced features goes, but if your just looking to do simple modules, you'll never reach it.

I'm pretty sure you can DL a free trial version. Id do so and see for yourself. I think you will be pleasantly surprised and how user friendly it can be. There is also a plethora of video tutorials to help you get started.

I'm imagining you're talking about Articulate Presenter. I have never used it but have heard that it's publishing time is bordering on ridiculous for large projects.

Being an experienced Adobe Captivate user I can say the Storyline 2 is wonderful! I spend way less time trying to fix issues with projects and a lot more time doing the fun stuff! Developing engaging content. And it's pretty easy to use for the most part. You'll still need to learn how to do a lot things for advanced interaction and there are issues that will at times make you crazy, but compared to Captivate and Camtasia (<--which I like) SL2 is way better!

Hi, Erinn -- Thanks for your question, and I am sure lots of current users of both products will be happy to chime in here with their advice and opinions! I know you mentioned Studio '09 specifically, but in case you wanted to take a look at a side-by-side comparison of the two products, you may want to check our this information on Articulate Storyline 2 Vs. Articulate Studio ’13 to give you some idea of how they match up. You may also want to see this article, as well. :)
