Unfortunately there is currently no way of universally changing the length of objects on a slide. However there are a few options that could save you some time.
Option 1 - Right click on objects and select timing. Here you can change the duration an object is onscreen for.
Option 2 - Click and drag the timeline to shorten it (only possible if objects are 'show until end' otherwise you may inadvertently end up moving objects in your timeline'
And as always you can submit it as a feature request here
I suppose when comparing the software you need to consider the value and importance of the features.
Personally, I find SL much more user friendly than Captivate and the range of interactions possible without any knowledge of coding is just outstanding. However, you're right, there are some (seemingly simple) elements that seem to have missed the boat for this version (such as timeline issues) and a range of fun and interesting bugs - but I would personally prefer to use software offering a wide range of capabilities that requires a little tlc every now and again than use software offering fewer capabilities that is 100% stable and has included all the smaller elements to help make development easier.
Besides I'm sure the programmers will take on board our suggestions for the next full version

Hi Damien,

Hope this helps
Thank you.
Storyline is much better software than Captivate, why programers forgot about basics like this one?

Like I sad - Storyline is great, greater than Cap. But... This is shame. Its so basic things!
And its make work much harder.
