Good suggestion Phil. By doing as Phil suggested, you can simply add a trigger to the transparent shape you create and it will function exactly the same as a hotspot. The beauty of Storyline is that you can make anything an action item simply by adding a trigger to it. You aren't forced to put transparent buttons over everything to make it work.

Try right-clicking on your hotspot and then select Format Shape. Then go to the Fill tab. Lots of options.

But I've already tried that. What happens is that when i preview or publish de screen the hotspot is still invisible.
I would swap the hotspot out for a transparent object, you can then add as much colour as you want
