How to Create a Layer to Display When User Does Not Watch an Entire Video on a Slide

Sep 23, 2015

I have added a Youtube video on a Storyline 2 slide and have set the Triggers as follows; however, the "incomplete" message layer does not appear if a User attempts to click the Next button before the video ends. I have tried using a "timeline Ends" variable and other options, but the "incomplete" textbox still does not appear. Can someone please assist me with this?

The video is 53 seconds long, and it is on the Base layer timeline to start automatically after the content and audio ends on the slide. (I started with a playbar added at the bottom of the video and removed it later.) The video does work when in Preview mode.

Without knowing what your variables are called here is how I would try it:

1. Add a T/F variable called videoComp default is False

2. Add trigger: Adjust variable 'videoComp' to True when media completes

3. Add trigger: Show layer 'incomplete' when user clicks 'Next' button, on condition that variable 'videoComp' is not equal to True.

If that doesn't work, can you upload your story file (or the side with the video and the following slide) and I'll take a look for you

Wendy, I am so thankful and so excited! I added the T/F variable and set it to a defaulted value of "False". Then I added a trigger to Adjust variable "videocomp" to True when media completes. In the Player triggers, I changed the "Show layer "incomplete" when user clicks "Next' button on condition that the variable "videocomp" is NOT EQUAL to True.  THIS WORKS!

Could the condition be set so that the variable "videocomp" is equal to False as opposed to "not equal to true"? This appears to suggest the same thing, but it did not work for me when I tried this.

Now I have three slides to go over which are much easier (containing text and a graphic), as these screens refuse to show the "incomplete" message. Maybe I'll try the "not equal to" option on these to see if they work.
