When you say "choose this icon," do you mean the Hexagon icon? I tried that. The frame of the shape is a square, but the sides of the hexagon are not all the same length.
Click the icon, then click on the slide without dragging. If the sides are not equal, SL doesn't have the ability to create a shape with adequate accuracy for your needs. You'll have to fiddle with the handles on the sides to get what you want.
Thanks for the additional information, Walt, but clicking the icon and clicking on the slide without dragging doesn't create a regular hexagon. I'll play with it, to see how much hassle it is to try to make all the sides equal.

May be easier to create in illustrator and insert as an image
