I prepared a course in Storyline which is a little more than 3 MB in size. The problem is that in some places it takes too much time to upload the file (already as html), and it seems to me that I'll have to find a way to decrease it.
So, are there any tips for that? What components increase the size, and which are better to use?
I was finding that the size of my .story files were becoming really big as I was inserting the original images and then cropping them within SL.
If you use Powerpoint or Word etc. and crop an image, you have the option to compress images by deleting the cropped area's, but this doesn't exist in SL. Instead, you could crop the images using Photoshop (or something similar) first, and then insert them into your project.
I managed to shrink my SL project by nearly 5MB by doing this.
Thanks Antony, I'll try what you've suggested. Although from having a look on the files placed in the published project directory, the pics are relatively small in size. The largest file was "data.js", placed in the sub folder "mobile".
Well, reducing images size did help a little, but the zip file is still large.
Does anybody know whether it's better to make more slides rather then layers (for having smaller published projects)? Or maybe preferring fewer slides with more layers in each would be better?
Hi Yari, layers vs slides makes no real difference in the published file size. Some things you can do to try and reduce the size are to put any images that appear in the same place on your slides in the slide master. Background images, for example, should be on the slide master.
If you have images that you use on a number of different places you should just import it once into storyline and then copy and paste it to the other screens using the image.
One thing though, 3MB is not very large so there is only so much you are going to be able to do the bring the overall size down.

Hi, have you taken a look at the 'Quality' settings when you publish? Screenshot attached.
Vispi.
I have, I'm afraid it had no significant effect on the size of the zip file.
Hi Yair,
Does your SL course have any images in it?

Thanks a lot Nancy!
