How to design a new player?

Jul 18, 2013

Hi,

A co-worker of mine just sent me a new player. I know for a fact she isn't a coder and am curious to know how I can design my own or even alter what she gave me? I know it is xml and tried editing it in Dreamweaver, but it is all messy and jumbled. Any ideas? Is there a different way  perhaps?

Thanks,

KarenE

Hi Karen!

Blair is correct that to design your own Player, you will click on the Player icon on the "Home" tab of the Ribbon, and in there you can customize the player fonts, color scheme, links, etc. Here's a link to more information on customizing the Storyline player: Customizing the Storyline Player.

Regarding the .xml file your coworker provided you with... You don't need to be a coder to create this .xml Player file, all you need to do is use the "Export" feature available in the Player Properties window to export the Storyline Player you've designed to an .xml file.

Then, you can share the .xml file with others (as your coworker has done with you) and they can use the import feature in the Player Properties window to import the .xml file, which will apply those custom player settings to their own project.  I created a Screenr that demonstrates exactly how to do this process last week actually, and you can check it out here: Use Export/Import to Share Custom Storyline Players. And just in case you need it, here's an additional link: Sharing Player Templates and Color. Hope this helps clarify about the .xml Player file! =)
