How to determine size of zoom region?

May 11, 2018

Hi all,

Is there a way to determine and adjust the size and positioning of a zoom region, similar to how you can do this with shapes, text boxes, buttons, and other objects? I don't see any fields for setting these characteristics for a zoom region, but this would helpful if, for example, I'm using two zoom regions back-to-back in the timeline on a slide to get a kind of zoom-and-pan effect from one area of the slide to another. It's difficult and time-consuming to eyeball the size and position of the zoom regions so I don't get a wobble.

Thanks!

Lisa

Hi there Lisa!

That's a great question. Storyline doesn't currently have a feature that will allow you to adjust the size and positioning of a zoom region, but we've heard from other folks in the forum that this is much-needed functionality. We're tracking this request, so thanks for letting us know this is an important feature for you!

I have seen a workaround where you apply a rectangle shape over the zoom region, then cut/paste that shape on to subsequent slides to use as a guide for inserting additional zoom regions. It's still tedious, I know, but it's more precise than eyeballing it. 👀

Hi Alyssa. Thank you for your response. Yes, I discovered that workaround in another post after I posted this one and tried that yesterday. It worked fairly well, although there's still a jump in the zoom between slides that I can't quite figure out how to resolve. It's probably off by a pixel or two. I look forward to hearing about whether this functionality will be added at some point. In the meantime, I'll work with what we have. Many thanks again!
