How to end an eLearning module when menu tab is customized based on the way users interact?

Sep 28, 2020

I am using Storyline 360/storyline 3.

I have a long 1hour+ duration -  new-hire onboarding course. I just finished building it, but I am stuck. I don't know how to move forward.

I have a menu slide which has 4 tabs. Each tab contains 20+ slides. After learners viewed it, each time they will be revisiting the menu slide. The thing is, the 4 tabs can be clicked in any order (company's requirement). If you refer to the screenshot (it's called 4cs), users can click on any C's to proceed. But the compliance - is where I have used acknowledgement survey/thank you, etc..,

But I have chosen 1 out of the 4 tabs in which I have inserted an acknowledgment survey, thank you slide, etc.., If users click that first, then they will think the course is finished!! I mean, the content is built like that.

I have an ‘acknowledgment survey’ that tracks the user’s completions. My company does not have an LMS. We host our storyline courses on our SharePoint.

Can someone help me with an easy solution? I am an intermediate. I haven’t used any advanced triggers/variables.

I have attached a Screenshot of the 4 tabs that appear in the menu slide. I used some variables to make a checkmark appear as users finish each tab.

Thank you very much in advance.

Hi Gina,

In the attached example, I have set up the four Cs (I haven't bothered with all the text as it is simply to show you the technique) and included a single slide for each to represent the four sets of slides that are in your course. I have also added a separate slide for the survey and "Thank You" at the end as I think this should be on its own, as that enables the other areas to be visited in any order without encountering the survey half way through.

Probably much as you have already set up, when the user completes a particular section and is returned to the main menu, a True/False variable is adjusted to indicate that the section is complete, which in turn adds a check mark to that portion of the menu.

Once all four variables are True, the text at the bottom of the page is hidden and a Continue button is displayed. Clicking on this button will send the user to the survey and "Thank You" as the final part of the course.

For the purposes of the demo, I have simply added a "Module Complete" button for each module, to trigger the adjustment of the variable and return the user to the main menu slide.

Hope this helps. If you have any further queries, just get back to me here.

Hi Ned,

I want to tell you a million thanks, first of all. I followed your tips plus watched the demo and followed those variables. I now made it work the way the company wants it. Once again, many many thanks. I have attached the screenshot again. Ignore the checkmarks. Each of them is in a different size!!!! I need to do more formatting :-) But, the functionality is working and that's what is the most important. I linked the survey/thankyou slide to the 'continue' button and its a lot more clear and better now.

Please see screenshot I followed your tips.
