How to get a handle on object x, y ?

I want to move objects by adding or subtracting from their x, y position. Is there a way to do this either using Javascript or on slide triggers?

I thought there used to be this functionality via triggers before. Has it been done away with?

Objects can only be moved using the motion paths, you can use triggers to do this.

So how do the parallax slider bar things work? Aren't they moving a layer via an x, y position?

No they use two slider attached to the same variable, the thumb of one of the sliders is the moving image, you could use this to simulate what you want but could only move in either the vertical or the horizontal not both.
