How to hide sensitive information in screen recordings when media plays in a new window

Sep 07, 2018

Hello - I need to hide sensitive information displayed my screen during a screen recording. I know how to do this when the media plays within the slide (insert a shape over the text), however, I need my media to open/play in a new browser window. This is because the video (mp4  format) contains a demo on how to complete a fairly technical task. I need the screen as large as possible to the learner can see the images and step by step instructions clearly.

Or, is there a way I can show the video in the slide but give the learner an option to expand it to full screen view?

Thanks in advance.

Hi there, Eden.  When the video opens in a new browser window, it simply displays the video file without any HTML "wrapper" -- in other words, just the raw video plays.

As for making the video in slide as big as possible, I'll let you know what's possible!  If you're using the modern player in Storyline 360, you'll notice the player automatically fills the screen.  Your slide content will expand up to your .story size, but it won't stretch to be full screen once it hits a vertical or horizontal limit.

When planning your course, consider the largest monitor size you'd folks to use, and you can set your .story size accordingly.  If you don't need player elements, and if you have a custom navigation setup (using slide buttons rather than player Next and Prev buttons), you could always turn off player controls and give your slide content even more room.

I hope that helps give you a bit of clarity.  Open to other suggestions from the community as well for dealing with sensitive information in simulations!
