How to hide the simulation steps title in Storyline menu
Aug 12, 2012
Hi everyone,
I saw this tutorial on how to customise the storyline player but was not able to customise it for my project.
I have created this CRM software simulation for my project and want the users to go through the view mw,try me and test me options. But once i publish the course, in the menu it shows a lengthy list of all the steps it has created for the software.I was wondering how i can lock them and give them only one heading or title in the menu instead of showing the users the name of the all the recorded steps on the menu.
I have attached a screen shot of it as a reference.
Would appreciate your assistance.
Regards
Amanda

Hi Amanda - in Storyline, click Home > Player > Menu. In the menu listing, select any title that you don't want to appear to the learners, and click the red X below the menu listing. This removes the title from appearing in the menu (but the slide itself still remains in your course). You can find more tips on customizing the menu here.
Hi Jeanette,
Thanks for your help.It did worked and i was able to customise it.
There is an another issue which i am facing while using the same simulation recordings.
When i initially recorded my software simulation i set it to "view it" and then made some changes to the captions or call outs recorded by storyline.I edited the text in the call outs.
I want to use the same edited recording now as a "Try it" option but when i insert the same "view it" recording as "Try me" it picks the one it initially recorded not the one in which i made the changes to the text in the call outs.
Please advise if it can be fixed in storyline.

Hi again Amanda,
When you make caption edits, those edits don't become part of the original video; they're only part of the slides on which the step-by-step screen recording has been inserted. So, if you insert the video again as a different type, unfortunately it won't reflect the edits you made in the previous insertion. The ability to save & reapply the same edits to multiple instances of the screen recording would make a great feature request.
Amanda, thanks for posting this. I ran into it a couple days ago and thought, man, wouldn't it be nice if I didn't have to repeat this for each mode? Tx, Jeanette. Sending along feature request
Thanks, both of you! Can't emphasize enough, how helpful it is when we receive feature requests, so thank you so much for that. These are so important in helping the dev team understand what's important to our user community!
Hi Jeanette,
Thanks for your email.
Also I was wondering is there a way i can increase the resolution or zoom the recorded steps(Software simulation) in storyline story view and then save the way it looks and publish them the same way.
I have recorded my simulation with the recommended resolution size of (1,280 x 800 or higher recommended) but the recording output is not that great.
I have attached an example for your feedback.
Please advise.

Hi Amanda,
You could certainly use the Zoom Area to zoom in on a particular part of the screen. You might also see if you can zoom your browser in to be a little tighter before you record, so that things are easier to see. Howcome you are using 1280x800 for your capture size? Could you go with something tighter?
Is there a way to hide the Page Title at the top of the Notes Tab?

Hi Gustaf - Well, there's not really an option to hide that text, but what you could do is change the text to be the same color of your notes background color...that way it would be invisible. To do that, you'd need to edit your player colors and change the color of Transcript>heading text to be exactly the same as Menu>bg.
Thx Jeanette.
That's exactly how I solved it.
