How to make an option look inactive / greyed out
Mar 13, 2017
Hi everyone!
In my project I wanted to make a little trick where in the menu, when one option is selected, the other one is greyed out (looks inactive). For that I used a greyed out state and a trigger. For some reason, this doesn't fully work, as when I click on one option, both get greyed out. When i click again, all works fine - so something is not 100%... I'm attaching my project, maybe someone has an idea what could be causing this?
The problem appears in the Self-study by level - Introductory and Intermediate are those that should be greyed out interchangeably.
Thank you in advance for your help!

Change the trigger order on Textbox 1 so that the Change state trigger is executed BEFORE the lighbox trigger.
Hi Michael,
Big thanks for your quick response and apologies for sounding daft, but this is only my 2nd project in Storyline, that's why I'm not sure I understand what i need to do. Which Text box 1 do I need to change the order of? The 'Curriculum by level' one? This one does't have a trigger on. Please could you give a version for a dummy? :)
Thanks!
I guess I was looking at the wrong slide then. The only disabled state I saw was on the menu slide 1.1.
Hi, oh, no. I was asking about the slide 1.3 and the two menu options: Introductory level and intermediate level - when one is clicked, the other should get greyed out, but both do, for some reason.
Have a look at the attached file and see if that's what you wanted. I created a button set for the two items (see for info on button sets here) and removed the 'Change state of object xyz to Selected' triggers. "Selected" is a built-in state that will be displayed automatically when an object is clicked.
Thanks Michael - I tried it - it's a useful feature and it does work, but it does the opposite of what I wanted to achieve - i.e. I wanted to have the effect where the other element is greyed out, not the one that's being clicked on. So when I click Introductory level, the Intermediate level is greyed out and the other way around. So, at the risk or being annoying, is there a way of achieving this effect? :) Thank you for your help!
Sure, you can do that too, see attached. To me it just looks 'weird" because the other (greyed out) element looks like it is permanently disabled (cannot be clicked) when in fact it can be clicked.
Hi Michael, thanks. Though I don't see anything attached? :) Please could you reattach the file? Thanks!
Oops, looks like I forgot to attach the file. Sorry :-)
Haha, that's alright! Thank you Michael for this and all your help in general - it's much appreciated! :)
Have a lovely day!
