First time user and trying to learn Storyline. I have downloaded some templates from the site, and i've followed these instructions (below) to launch the template, but it's still not showing in the drop down section. Is it because i am still using the eval version? Thanks for your help.
Load the templates by doing any of the following:
Double-click the file.
Or, copy it into My documents / My Articulate Projects / Storyline Templates.
Or, from the Storyline launch screen, under Create a new project, click From project template. Then choose the template file and click Open.
The templates should work in the trial version as it's a full version of the software. You'll want to make sure that you saved the templates to your My Articulate Projects folder, which should be on a local drive and then you'll want to restart Storyline.
1. Work on your local drive (your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, including file corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.
2. You should also make sure the directory path to your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters (for example C:\Articulate).
3. Avoid using special characters, accents or symbols in your file names.
If the odd behavior persists, you may need to conduct the repair of Storyline in the event that something occurred during your installation.
Thanks for your response. I have downloaded the templates and saved them in C:\Users\john.toh\Documents\My Articulate Projects\Storyline Templates. I still dont see them under the dropdown after relaunching Storyline.
The work around is to use the import function, not ideal but still works.
If you're received the templates from someone else, the import function is the way to add them into your project as described here and if you've download the free ones they should appear in the drop down.
Are you able to conduct the repair of Storyline to see if your templates appear?
Since i am still evaluating the software, i will focus more on other functions and will come back to this later when i have time as this is not a show stopper (The software has excited me and my team :P)
A couple of things to keep in mind - some to the templates are not really templates in that they have not been saved in the template format. In the picture you showed, for example, flat-desktop-explore.story and TabbedInteraction-PhilMayor.story have not been saved in the .storytemplate format so the only way to use these examples is to open them up in storyline and then use them as a starting point to create your own story - or if you want them to appear as templates - save the file as .storytemplate and then place them in the Content/Templates folder wherever your Articulate Storyline application is installed.
Once you put them in that directory you should be able to access them from the Templates dropdown within Storyline.
One thing to keep in mind, the .story file that Phil created, for example, is not the standard 720 by 540 size so if you convert it into a template and then try to use that template in a standard 720 by 540 project it might be distorted.

Hi John and welcome to Heroes!

If you are experiencing unexpected issues using Articulate software, here are some tips for managing your files which can help prevent issues:
1. Work on your local drive (your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, including file corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.
2. You should also make sure the directory path to your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters (for example C:\Articulate).

That explains it! Thanks Nancy!!
