How to replay a layer?

Sep 24, 2016

Hi,

I'm trying to add a "replay" button that shows the layer again (including audio and animation).

I'd tried 2 things that didn't work (bug?):

1. adding the trigger "resume timeline" + "on this layer" + "when user clicks". (nothing happens when user clicks).

2. adding the trigger "show layer" + "this layer" + "when user clicks". (nothing happens when user clicks).

Can anyone tell me how it's done?

Hi Tal,

You can do this with 4 simple triggers inside the layer itself.

You'll need a trigger to hide your layer on timeline end , and  immediately after that add another trigger to Show " your_layer's_name" upon timeline end to replay the layer. ( BUT these will just make it loop over and over).  So at .25 sec before the end of the timeline  you will need a trigger to Pause the timeline .  Your Replay button should be at exactly that point with it's own trigger to resume timeline when clicked.  Hope this is clear enough. Best of luck.   I'm guessing Michael's example above should be similar in approach and otherwise an excellent resource as well.

Hi Yolanda,

This thread is a bit dated, but I'd love to help you out.

Looks like you are wanting to follow the directions shared by Richard above and he's pausing the timeline prior to when the timeline ends, hence the .25 second comment.

Not sure what you're seeing or the object in question. Would you be able to share your slide in a .story file so that we can take a look and understand? Just let us know the effect/behavior you are looking for.

Thanks for sharing your file and allowing me to take a look Yolanda.

Yes, the replay button on your layer is set to resume timeline on layer, so it does not appear to be doing anything since you are on the layer.

I did not see where you were allowing the base layer to display on your layers, so it seems that slides would be a better fit for your design here.

Think of layers as 'layering' on top, but slides can hold different content.

With slides, you can have the behavior you are looking for along with less triggers :)

Take a look at Scene 2 in the attached file.
