How to revisit "completed" training without the original Restricted Navigation?

Jan 16, 2020

Is there any way to allow learners to return to a training that they have complete that includes restricted navigation, such that when they return they are no longer restricted since they have already viewed all slides. The goal is to be able to use it as a job aid after they have completed. Restricted Navigation is required initially to ensure all slides are completed.

The course is already "Restricted" (I guess i wasn't clear in how I wrote that first sentence). The question relates to when they have already completed and closed the training, then go back to use it as a job aid. The restriction then becomes a problem for quickly getting to the info they need. I am hoping there is a way to have them revisit without the restriction on the Next button... either thru Trigger or Resume Saved State, etc. I need help with this ASAP as it relates to upcoming Merit Increase process for a very large organization

Hi Ruth,

Have you tried checking your Resume options in the player and have it set to Always Resume? Here's how:

  1. To customize the resume behavior, go to the Home tab on the Storyline ribbon and click Player.
  2. When the Player Properties window appears, click Other on the ribbon.
  3. In the Resume section of the window, choose one of the following options from the On restart drop-down list.

Setting the always resume option should be helpful if your learners need to visit the course more than once. Hope this helps!

This works for resuming the training midway thru, but I when I complete the training and revisit, the next button is restricted again right from the start, along with the menu. That makes it unacceptable for revisiting as a job aid. I have the seekbar set to "Allow User to Drag" to mitigate this problem but this is causing another issue when published to the LMS (Oracle Learning) in that when the seekbar is used the timeline becomes unstable... animation and audio are not synced and there is extra time to complete slide and enable the Next button. I'm using SCORM 1.2 and wonder if SCORM 2004 4th edition would help this. Maybe multiple issues?

Hi Ruth,

Thanks for sharing those extra details, and it looks like you also connected with my teammate, Katie, on this issue. She was able to test a file in SCORM Cloud and was able to revisit it even after completing the course.

I would follow up with your LMS with this scenario to see if you're able to revisit a course that has been completed without restarting. Hopefully something can be worked out!
