How to run in an iframe

Sep 30, 2014

I'm trying to run a Storyline module as part of a larger form sequence, which will be embedded into a form page using an iframe. The site is constructed in Joomla 3.3. I'm doing testing for our department website that will be running lessons created by our faculty using Storyline.

However, even when I test it on a plain article that only contains the iframe (no form), it doesn't load or play; the iframe area is blank (using either a relative or full path URL). I'm sure I have the src URL correct because it plays when I just plug that into the browser. I saw in another forum post here that someone had simply dropped their story.html into an iframe and it plays beautifully, so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I'm testing this using a trial version -- that wouldn't block my ability to do this, would it? I'm hoping someone can help me with this. Thanks in advance.

Here are links to different test pages showing the 3 variations: just html, iframe in an article, and inside a form:

Link to just the story.html (no iframe) using my test lesson (which loads):

Link to a plain article that puts the test lesson in an iframe (doesn't load):

Link to a test form that puts the test lesson in an iframe on Page 2 of the form (doesn't load):

Hi Wendy and welcome to Heroes,

I don't know a lot about embedding content within an iFrame - but I did find this article which may help you.

I also was testing your links, and the first link didn't load for me at all - so I wasn't able to see any behavior differences.

Hopefully someone here in the community can offer additional ideas or suggestions on ways to set this up.

Hi Ashley,

Thanks for your reply and the article, and the welcome. The instructions there are what I have done, so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

That's curious that the first link wouldn't run for you. Can you tell me (a) which browser you're using and (b) if you're using a PC or Mac? I'm on a PC and have tested it in Firefox and Chrome, so I'm wondering if your set up might be interacting with it differently.

Hi Wendy,

Sure thing - I tested it from a PC on Chrome version 37 (my default browser). I tested it again this morning - and after some loading it did finally play, so it may just have been my internet connection or computer yesterday. The other links still do not work as you mentioned.

Do you have an IT team who is responsible for the website that could check into your HTML coding?

Good Afternoon, Wendy.

Please click here to see your Storyline output running in a simple IFrame. Within Google Chrome, you can press CTRL+U to view the page source.

I'd recommend replicating this source code in Joomla, although there appears to be a lot of other stuff going on within your page that we cannot support.

Good luck with your project!

I guess I spoke too soon. It seems to be sporadic as to whether the module will load inside an iframe or not. In some cases it does; in others it won't load.

We are putting the Storyline modules inside a multi-page form, but these seem to be inconsistent as to whether they load or not. At the moment, the AS modules seem to be able to load when placed in an iframe inside the form, but when I put just the iframe on an ordinary page, it won't load - same results in Firefox, Chrome or IE.

Here are links to examples:

http://clients.ecnetsolutions.net/DOVS/en/as/as-flash-form (loads)

http://clients.ecnetsolutions.net/DOVS/en/as/as-html5-form (loads)

http://clients.ecnetsolutions.net/DOVS/en/as/as-flash-iframe (doesn't load)

http://clients.ecnetsolutions.net/DOVS/en/as/as-html5-iframe(doesn't load)

They use exactly the same URL (tried both as an relative and absolute URL; same results). Again: I'm using this in a Joomla 3.3 installation.

If someone could please help me figure out what's causing this, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks,

Wendy
