How to set default slide type so slide title and subtitle captions don't appear

Sep 19, 2018

I'm trying to create a new project template, so I am testing out all of the possible features we'd include to document the steps for my team. I imported a PPT template that was created by our Marketing department (trying to go by the book).

I have one scene that includes all of those slides as a starting point. I then tried to create a step by step recording in View mode, but every slide includes a text box for the slide title and subtitle that look like they're coming from the PPT template.

I tried inserting a recording onto a scene where the first slide is totally blank, thinking that the screen recording would follow that layout, but they all still have the "click to add" title and subtitle boxes.

I can apply the blank layout after the fact, which is way better than deleting the boxes on every slide, but it seems like there should be a way to set the default.

Hi Sarah,

Are these items coming in from a slide master? You could look at applying another layout from your slide master set that doesn't include those, but I can't say that I've seen this happen before especially with a screen recording.

When you insert a screen recording as a Step by step option, it becomes a part of your slide background and should take over from what you've added onto a master.

I'd love to take a look at this .story (or even .ppt) file to see what's going on, and I can offer some more ideas after that!
