How to test out or test at the end - and only report one result

May 07, 2014

I need to create a course where:

  • Users start the course by trying to test out of the course - by taking a test.
  • If they score 100% at the beginning of the course, that score is reported to the LMS and they don’t have to take the course.
  • If they score less than 100%, that score is NOT reported to the LMS and they do have to take the course.
  • Then at the end of the course, they take that same test – and THAT is the score that I need reported!

So I need just ONE score reported for the course - the one at the beginning if they score 100%, or the score at the end after they take the course.

I know there's other discussion of test-out courses, but I don't think they really address what I'm looking for.

Any ideas?

Hi Lisa,

This discussion is a bit older, so you may want to post a new question about how to set up your pre-test. I'd also suggest reaching out in the Building Better Courses side of ELH and see if there is anyone who can help! That side tends to focus more on design and how to.

In the meantime, here is a blog post on why and when to use a Pre-Test type of scenario, and I thought it may help as a starting point for you.
