I'd like to animate 100+ pictures. One after the other I'd like them to fade out. I can't work out how to do this without having 100+ layers (which would make their alignment virtually impossible).
Having to deal with 100+ images on a single Storyline slide is likely going to cause you massive headaches and cause sluggish performance - not impossible, but not ideal. For something like this I would actually recommend using a web objects. I found an example you could use here:

Just edit the code and CSS to suit your needs. Include the images within the web object's directory if you can't host them elsewhere.

Have you considered creating an animated GIF and inserting that in to Storyline?
