.html file doesn't play course in web browser

Dec 26, 2013

Hi, we have a team member that strictly does functional reviews of our courses before delivering them to the client. This team member is running Windows 8. We sent a zip file containing the following files:

  • launcher.html
  • meta.xml
  • story_content
  • story.html
  • story.swf

The instructions for the review is to download the zip file to one folder, double-click launcher.html, and review the course. IE starts to load the page, but only the background color of the first page in the course is displayed. Nothing else happens, and no error message is received. Pop-up blocker has been disabled. Chrome has been downloaded and did play the course either. Any suggestions? The course plays on Windows 7 and on Mac. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The course is attached.

Hi Celeste and welcome to E-Learning Heroes,

The problem may simply be because the output files are being viewed locally. If you need to share the files with your team member for review, it would be best to share it with them after uploading it to a web server or LMS.

Here's more information:

Publishing and Sharing Articulate Storyline Content

Now, if you need to provide files that your team member can review locally, it may help to publish for CD. Just keep in mind that they'll need to extract and run the EXE file, not the HTML file.

I've uploaded the file you shared to our Tempshare server for testing. I'm providing it below, just in case you'd like to test it, or share the link with your team member.

(it looks great, by the way!)

Also, keep in mind that we don't officially support the use of Tempshare - this is available to those that don't have access to a server for testing. Any content uploaded to this server will be removed after 10 days.

I hope this helps!
