HTML5 Font displaying problem in storyline 3

Jul 09, 2018

Hi,

I have been using Storyline 3  and I have a problem with the display. After publishing in html5 the font changes and scrambles, You can see this in the screenshots I provided (the font is in Hebrew and I marked the errors in red in Pictures11.png). I tried to change the font but couldn't fix the problem.

Any solutions?

Hi, Shai! I'm happy to lend a hand, and have a few questions to start:

  • What version of Storyline 3 are you using? To find this detail, simply go to Help > About Storyline
  • Did you publish the course for Web, LMS, or something else?
  • Does the font issue appear on multiple browsers or a particular one?
  • Mind sharing your .story file or a single slide with me? Simply pop it into this discussion by using the Add Attachment link in your reply, or you can share it privately with me here. I'd like to try to replicate the font issue in the same environment.

Looking forward to lending a hand!

Hi,

•My version of Storyline 3 is: update 2: 3.2.13213.0

•I publish the course for Web.

•The issue only appear on "Internet Explorer 11" and "Microsoft Edge", But on the Chrome browser the problem does not appear!!!

•No problem, I will attach an example and send in more detail one privately .

Thanks for sharing those two examples with me, Shai! I combed through and published both projects to Web, and the HTML5 outputs look хорошо ☺️

The only thing I noticed is that your Storyline 3 is on an older update–we had an issue where Hebrew text would render incorrectly when viewing the HTML5 output in IE11 and Edge, which fits everything you described. The latest one is 3.4.15731.0–mind updating, then republishing and testing the projects on your server? Let me know if you see a difference; I'll be here!

Really sorry you're seeing the same issue on the latest update, Angel! You're in the right place for help, and let's see if we can narrow this down!

To start, have you tried another LMS like SCORM Cloud–an industry-standard tool for testing SCORM output–to see if you experience the same font issue there? I'm happy to dig into your .story file and help you with that testing if you're able to share it with me!

Angel Quezada

Katie Gokhshteyn,  I have tested in the SCorm-cloud and it plays and runs as it should.

But when launching in our LMS.. I get frozen screens, not throwing completion and jumbled text.

we have over 30k users.. and even if its only 1% experiencing this.. still a problem .

Also I cant share the file because we have propriety content

please any guidance.

Katie Riggio

Appreciate you checking SCORM Cloud, Angel, and I completely understand. I wanted to mention that our Support Engineers keep all files confidential and are happy to sign an NDA–if that works for you and your team!

Glad to hear the content works as expected in SCORM Cloud, but we also want to make sure it works for the 1% of your learners. It might be helpful to enable LMS Debug Mode to see the communication between your Storyline course and your LMS.

If you can provide the resulting LMS Debug Log to your LMS team, they should be able to narrow down the cause. If you're able to share the log with us, we're also happy to help you interpret it!

Hi Rahul,

Thanks for the screenshot. Did you apply any animation to the bulleted text?

If so, we are investigating an issue in Storyline 360 where text with animation appears blurry in the HTML5 output.

Let me know if that matches what you're seeing. As an extra step, you could try removing the animation to see if there's an improvement.

Kendra Herlig

Any updates Alyssa? Does this also happen with Storyline 360? We paid a lot of money for multiple licenses and can't use this program. We are a BIG gov't consulting company and it's a little embarassing to have to completely remove programs because they were done in Storyline and there are issues. SOOO frustrated!!!

Ashley Terwilliger-Pollard

Hi Kendra,

Our team is testing a fix for the issue where the text is blurry when animations are applied to it. I'm sorry for the trouble it's caused you, but we'll let you know as soon as this issue is resolved.

If there is anything else I can help with let me know or feel free to reach out to our Support Team directly.

Leslie McKerchie

Hi Krzysztof,

Thanks for clarifying the issue you're following up on.

The original issue that Shai reported about the scrambling was specific to Hebrew text when viewing in IE or Edge, which was corrected in Update 4 of Storyline 3.

Is this what you are seeing as well? What version of Storyline 3 are you currently using? We are on Build 3.6.18134.0 which you can read about here.

Krzysztof Chorzepa

I'm on the latest version and we're having an issue with English font being all scrambled, with some text being replaced by squares or question marks.  We had to replaced our Open Sans fonts with Constantia.  It doesn't happen when we preview the course, but it does when we load it into our LMS.

Katie Riggio

So sorry this is happening, Krzysztof.

Appreciate your helpful details, and we're here to help! This article about missing letters and wrong fonts displaying covers options that should help you see the correct font in the LMS output.

If that doesn't help, would you mind sharing your .story file with us privately via this link? We'll give it a test and will delete it when we track down the culprit.

Hi Everyone,

Good news! We just released Update 7 for Storyline 3Here are the details.

It includes the fix we made in Storyline 360 that addresses an issue where text and images could be blurry when adding animation.

Please download the latest version and let us know if you have any questions, either here or by reaching out to our Support Engineers directly.

Hello

We are also using hebrew fonts and having a lot of problems in the last days.

After installing the new version of syoryline 3, which include the updates (3.11.23355.0) the courses are finally working in chrome but the letters are looking like mess of rectangels in the IE browser.

This is urgent please ..how can we solve that?

Thanks
