HTML5 iPad Playback Issue

Jan 16, 2014

Hi all,

I tried searching for this topic and didn't see a previous post about it. So here I go:

After publishing my course with HTML5 Output included, when playing back the course on an iPad, the player window/course are "chopped off" and you cannot resize the course or zoom out in Safari.

Are there any suggestions as to how to fix this? I have attached a screenshot.

Hi Joshua,

I took a look at the .story file you shared in your support case and saw you  had your story size set to 720 x 405. The default story size of 720 x 540 is generally your best option for an iPad However, as long as you maintain a 4:3 aspect ratio, you can change your story size to 800 x 600, 1024 x 768, etc.

If you use a different aspect ratio, Storyline will maximize (scale) your content to fit within the iPad screen to prevent scrolling and provide the best experience possible.

You may also want to play around with the player/browser settings detailed here.

Ashley,

I think the interesting thing is that previous courses that were created with those dimensions (courses created with update 2 and 3) played flawlessly on the iPad. We wanted a 16x9 aspect ratio because all modern displays tend to be 16x9, so we thought it was a good fit. Why the issue has come up since update 4 came into play is beyond me.

Also, I am speaking with Support about the issue and Regil published my same course to SCORM Cloud and we both expereienced flawless playback on the iPad. The one difference of note between Regil and my Storyline is that the versions are both Update 4:1311 but the last numbers are different. He is using 4:1311.1422 and I am using 4:1311.817.

So I am awaiting the next reply from support for now. I do appreciate your help.

Thanks,

Josh

Hi Joshua,

Thanks for the images and confirming you're using update 5. I see from your previous case with Regil that the version of your course he published to SCORM Cloud worked as expected using update 4. Was it still not working for you in update 4? There is a known issue right now where LMS content that is displayed in an iFrame is not scaling correctly while viewed in mobile Safari, and our team is looking into this currently. With that being said, each LMS has a different player and therefore it's also worth checking with your LMS team in regards to how to force the content out of the iFrame. You can confirm that this is the issue by testing your course at SCORM Cloud again where it should display normally.

Ashley,

It was working once I had the part 2 update to version 4. However, upon updating to version 5 we began experiencing the issue again. We even experience the issue in SCORM Cloud now, which to me, indicates the issue is in the new update. It seems to me that we are acting as Articulate's QA team as they release a version that has issues, we report them, Articulate fixes them, then a new release comes along and we are back to the same issues as before. Should we be more cautious in adopting updates to the Storyline software? It would seem to me that this issue shouldn't have returned with a newer version of updates.

Thanks for the assistance.

Hi Joshua,

The issue I previously mentioned doesn't occur on SCORM Cloud, as it was specific to the iFrame and based on the previous issue fixed in update 4, I haven't seen additional reports that it's occurring again in update 5. With that being said, we'll want to take a look at your most recent file that you've created with update 5 and if you have links you can share to where it's published that would be helpful as well. If you'd like you can share the information here in the forums, reply to your previous case (# 00379631 for my reference) with Regil, or I can send you directions on how to send it to me privately.
