HTML5 Output Issues

Jul 31, 2013

I am having many issues when I publish in HTML 5 and view in different browsers. Specifically these are:

1. Lightboxes: get cut off of screen in IE and Firefox; fine in Chrome.

2. Slide transitions: Very slow with the round loading wheel coming on in between every slide in IE and Firefox; fine in Chrome.

3.Web objects: do not load in Chrome; fine in IE and Firefox

Anyone have any solutions? Ideas? Fixes?

Hi Nikhil and welcome to Heroes!

Phil is correct about the supported formats for HTML5. I wanted to also send you the link for where you could find all those requirements .

Also, you had mentioned running it on an Android platform, and again it's not something supported.

Please let us know if you need anything else!

Hi there, I'm having issues with the HTML 5 cutting off the title text boxes on my slides that were transitioned from PPT. If the text runs onto a second line then the HTML 5 cuts it off. Runs fine in the Flash output. I tried viewing in both Chrome and FF. Any ideas on why this happens? I also have a similar issue with one of my quiz slides not appearing correctly in HTML 5 - it creates an unnecessary scroll bar and adds a bunch of space at the beginning of the MC answer choices. I tried recreating the slide several times, but this didn't help at all.

Hi Beth,

Please make sure you're running the most recent version of Storyline. Articulate Storyline Update 5 includes bug fixes, performance improvements, and HTML5 output enhancements. Click here for details.

Are you viewing the published output files locally, or are you uploading to a web server or LMS?

If you're viewing your published files locally, this may be the problem. If you view a published Storyline presentation on your local hard drive or send it to someone else to view on their local hard drive, you'll encounter security restrictions from the computer, web browser, Flash Player, and network that'll cause various features of your content to fail.

To properly test your published content and share it with others, upload it to the environment for which it was published. Please review the article below for more information:

Publishing and Sharing Articulate Storyline Content

Let us know how it goes! :)

Thanks,

Christine

I have to say I was very disappointed in the latest Storyline update. I was hoping this issue regarding painfully slow HTML5 output would be improved, if anything the courses seem to be running slower.

I'm not convinced you guys are taking this issue as seriously as you should be. You must realise the trend is heading towards mLearning more and more but I constantly see in these forums you put the issue down to 'inherent issues in HTML5'. This really isn't good enough and you shouldn't advertise the product as being HTML5 compatible when, in all reality, it is practically unusable in this format due to the slowness and the random bugs with things not appearing as they should be.

I know you have the iPad mobile player but this rarely an implementable solution in corporate environments due to equipment lock downs, and anyway, I still don't understand why you don't at least have an android version too - come on guys - you must know the usages stats between android vs ipad!

I hope you guys pay attention to this and don't just ask me to submit another feature request, because I do really like the software (and it's the reason I'm writing this), but I worry that unless these issues are amongst your top priorities - your software will sadly be left behind in the not to distant future.

I feel your frustration Paul

We have developed numerous courses for a part of my business so they are mobile compatible. Recently, the quiz scoring has just stopped working on mobile platforms and I am left having to pull the quiz elements out of my courses to drop into another more reliable platform, very stressful!!!

hello guys im trying to RUN an HTML5 output on phone/tablet and it takes too much time to load each slide i used a lot of animation the course size is around 100 Mb i want to know if there is a way to solve this because in the way its loading right now the client cant see the course because it will take forever to finish 1 course anyhelp on how make next slide buffer while im reviewing the course thanks in advance

Ashley Terwilliger-Pollard

Hi Mohamed,

If you include the option for the mobile player and also need to track your course you'll need to publish for Tin Can as detailed here. You can choose whether or not to also include HTML5 for those users who will be on devices that don't support the mobile player.

Have you tested the output from different devices and different internet speeds? The playback will also be dependent on how the user is accessing it, and HTML5 content in mobile Safari does have limitations based on the browser alone.

Hi everyone,

I'm having problem with Storyline 2 when publishing for htlm5.

First to say I tested this issue with FF and Chrome and I get same results.

When I publish my project for htm5 and go view the project from storyline everything works ok and looks ok, but when I go to publish folder (like for example, My Articulate project) and try to view the project I get 2 major issues.

1. The slider in the project doesn't work when clicked with .html but works with .swf file.

And I removed all animation and transparency.

2. The web object (which is actually engage13 project) is not displaying. I can hear it (as it does have a sound) but it doesn't display.

Please can you help me?

I can't share .story file here publicly but privately.

Hi Nives!

Sounds like you were still viewing your project locally.

If you view an Articulate Storyline course on your local hard drive (or send it to someone else to view on their local hard drive), you'll encounter security restrictions from the computer, web browser, Flash Player, and network that'll cause various features to fail. To properly test your published content and share it with others, upload it to the environment for which it was published. See this article for details.

Also, once uploaded, be sure you are viewing in a supported environment as detailed here. The HTML5 output is not supported in Firefox.

Hi friends,

I am also having some issues in html5 output, the published output works fine in html & flash but in html5 when i clicked on menu, help popup opens & vise versa. I mean to say gui buttons not working properly. I want note one more thing here is gui is totally customized and all the buttons are in the slidemaster

Ashley Terwilliger-Pollard

Hi Amol,

Thanks for reaching out here and sharing a bit of your experience. Are you viewing the published content locally or on your web server/LMS environment? You'll want to ensure you're testing in the intended environment to determine how it's supposed to work and when viewing the HTML5 output you'll want to ensure you use one of the supported browsers here.
