HTML5 output not working on Chrome

Feb 13, 2018

I am using storyline 3 and after publishing the course they worked in Chrome and IE10 and FF. However after few days they are not loading on Chrome but works in IE10 and FF.

The issue is they were working fine just few days ago but all of a sudden only the loading wheel in loading, not the content.

Any idea how this has happened?

(I checked with flash version and it worked. Only HTML5 version is affected with this issue.)

Hi Manish,

The fix for audio/video not working in Chrome would have been in Update 3.17.16117.0 and that should work on Chrome ver. 67. Would you be able to share a link to your course or a copy of the .story file? That way I can test it out too and make sure you're not running into anything else odd!

Hi,

I've used articulate storyline 2 to create a series of modules in html5 package earlier and unfortunately they can only be viewed using IE but not chrome. My office is currently using Windows7 with Chrome (Version: 64.0.3282.186 (Official Build, 64-bit)). Basically the resource not not load, (please see the attached image below)

Also, I have tried to update my articulate storyline 2 version but it has failed with the error message shown below

Error: 80070642

I am attaching an error message that occurred when my office technician tried to view the resource package, hope to have your assistance in troubleshooting.

Hello Mo and welcome to E-Learning Heroes :)

Thanks for reaching out and letting us know what you are experiencing with your project.

It looks like you are publishing and uploading to a web server.

I am curious if you experience the same result if you upload the content to TempShare.

Would you be able to share your .story file for us to take a look at?

Mo Wang

Hi Leslie,

Thanks for your reply, yes i was trying to upload onto a web server in which all our modules are supposed to be hosted. May I know what is the 'Tempshare'? will i be able to remove it after uploading it onto that platform? as the content of our module needs to remain confidential to non subscribers.

Yes of course I can share my story file with you, can i just attach here?

Hello... we are experiencing the same issue with HTML5 and Chrome. We get the opening slide with just the background image and no other elements on the page. This is happening in multiple courses. In the office, we are running Chrome Version 69.0.3497.100 (Official Build) (64-bit). In the field, it could be any version of Chrome. The course is being run from our LMS. Running the course in FLASH solves the problem, but we have a significant number of HTML5 Chrome users out there. I've attached screenshots of the page and the browser console.

Any help would be appreciated.

I've also included a test .story file that displays incorrectly in HTML5 and Chrome.

A bit of an update. The test file that I included above, when published on a different PC, works fine in HTML5 in Chrome. Same version of Chrome and Storyline 2. Why would they be different?

I've probably gone a bit too far in researching this, but I was curious since I have a good and a bad file, so something must be different in the files. I think I may have found it. Why it's happening, you'll have to figure that out.

I was able to use the Developer's tools in Chrome to isolate where stuff stops being displayed in the BAD file. You can see the differences in the files that I've attached. The good one has a reference to a textlib in the class statements which is missing in the bad one.

Since we've isolated the issue to one PC, I am going to try reinstalling Storyline 2 and see what happens.

Alyssa Gomez

Hi, Richard -- thanks for coming back to give us an update! Let us know what happens after reinstalling and republishing with Storyline 2.

Hi, Mo -- Tempshare is a testing tool you can use if you do not have access to a web server, or if you need to test in an additional web server environment. Anything you upload to Tempshare will remain public for 10 days and can be accessed by anyone with the URL link.

Since you need your content to remain confidential, I'll send you the Tempshare link via email in a private case.

You may also want to click here to open the discussion and delete the file from this thread.

Hi there, Annie. So sorry you've come across this problem.

I'm able to access the URL in the screenshot: http://educationtraining.afge.org/CollectiveBargainingEssentials/Home/story_html5.html on the latest versions of Firefox and Chrome on Windows 10 ..however, I did notice a spinning wheel for a few seconds. Really strange! What version of Firefox and Chrome are you running?

Also, are you able to share the .story file? Feel free to either add it to this discussion by using the Add Attachment button in your reply or use this link to share it privately with me. I'll try to replicate what you're seeing in Tempshare in the same environment and let you know what I find.

Looking forward to helping!

Hi there,

We are brand-new users of Storyline 360, using build 3.21.17083.0. We hit this same issue with the content not playing in Chrome, version  70.0.3538.77. It works fine in FF, IE, & Edge. Is this an ongoing issue?

We have put the content on this page temporarily for viewing in case that helps: https://rnzcgp.org.nz/RNZCGP/Advocacy/Responses/Response_to_PHARMAC_regarding_Change_of_access_to_funded_Nicotine_Replacement_Therapy_and_the_Emerge.aspx

Thank you...

Welcome to the community and to Articulate 360, Anya! 👋

I tested your link in Chrome 70 where I'm unable to advance after the Welcome slide. Is that what you're experiencing as well? If a Storyline HTML5 course won't advance past the first slide when viewed in Chrome, it might mean that the server where the course is hosted has an outdated MIME type. Have no fear, though! If this is the culprit, these steps should help fix this issue.

If that doesn't help, I'd love to help investigate this issue with you further! Would you mind if I had a look at the source file to do some more testing? Feel free to either attach the .story file here or share it privately with me by using this link. We'll get to the bottom of this together!

Not sure why...but for some reason ALL our published Articulate 360 training programs put up on our website are not starting up in Chrome.  When I tried Firefox last night it was working fine.  However today, it opens in Firefox and Explorer but there is no sound.  Same issue with Chrome today.  Is anyone else having this issue??

I read back on some comments here and thought maybe I had to re-publish our program as perhaps the updates done from these browsers (i.e. regarding Flash Player) are now not working with our new Articulate 360.  ??  So I tried to re-publish but this did not work.  Same problem.  Sigh...

Please help!  How can we get our published training programs work again for our students????  We have 20 courses that we published using Articulate and need this working ASAP.  Thanks for any help.

Hello Karen,

Thanks for reaching out and letting us know what you are experiencing with your projects.

I do have a few additional questions:

  • What version of Storyline 360 are you using? We are on Build 3.23.17522.0 currently.
  • What version of Chrome?
  • How are you publishing and sharing the file? Web or LMS?
  • Are you viewing the course in the same environment as your learners would?
    • Please be sure that you are not viewing the local files from your computer as that could cause various security issues with browsers.

Lastly, if you'd like us to take a look at one of your .story files, we'd be happy to take a look and test as well.

Karen Tyrell

Thanks for your response Leslie.

To answer your questions:

1. I'm using Articulate 360.  Not Storyline.  I purchased Fall 2018 because my old version of Articulate Studio had a bug which caused issues for my students. This forced me to upgrade to 360 since I had no guarantee from Articulate they would fix this bug.  Now I'm experiencing this new issue  and am concerned.

2. I can't find the version of Chrome.  I have no idea how to find this.

3. We are publishing using Web.

4. Yes, I am viewing the course in the same way a user would. I've had others from different laptops/computers test and they are finding the same issue.  I've also used a different laptop to test and had the same issue.

5. How do I submit to you the file so you can view it?

Thanks so much for your support.

Karen :)
