HTML5 output: on review, answers in shuffled order overlap

Jul 12, 2016

I have a quiz designed to pull questions from a pool, and each question in that pool is set to shuffle answer order for multiple choice/multiple response questions.

The Flash output in IE, Chrome and Firefox displays all the answers correctly both when the student is taking the quiz and when they review.

The HTML5 output on my iPad also displays the content as expected.

But if Flash is turned off in desktop browsers and they load the HTML5 version instead, I run across a problem when reviewing the questions after scoring. Only Chrome displays the answers correctly. Both IE and Firefox move one or more answers to overlap with another answer.

This obviously reflects Chrome's better handling of HTML5 across the board, and if I turn off shuffle answers, everything looks good again in HTML5 across all desktop browsers.

But is there any workaround I can use to include shuffled answers without the HTML5 display issue on review? I'm finding that more and more people are uninstalling or disabling Flash on their desktop. Apart from recommending that they use Chrome (and many corporate locations are still on IE and will stay on IE for a long time), what could I do?

Hi, Rich -- Thanks for reaching out and sorry to hear of your troubles! I did a search and was not able to locate a ticket in our system for Mary's issue, so I wanted to mention that you would be welcome to reach out to her directly via the 'Contact Me' link on her profile page to see if she found improvement. Or if you would like share your file to see if we encounter the same behavior, here is the form you would need to send that along for private review.

Sorry, I've been busy re-building some courses, but I now have a sample file showing the problem. It currently seems to affect all MC questions and most MR questions when viewed in Firefox or IE. Chrome has no problems.

If an MR question is designed to have 4 of 4 answers correct, the overlapping doesn't happen on review. If an MR has only 3 of 4 answers marked as correctly, it usually -- but not always -- overlaps answers on review.

Very occasionally, I've had a run through where the overlap doesn't happen on a specific MC question on review.

I'm attaching both the Storyline file and a Word doc showing the results from a typical run-through.

Thanks for any help you can provide!
