We're using Storyline 2, outputting to HTML5, and testing that on a Samsung Galaxy S5 and iPad Air (both running that latest versions of their OSes). Videos included with the output play on the Android unit, but not iOS. The same setup (including same video files) but built with Storyline 1 plays just fine.
Any idea what's causing the issue? It's really mystifying since everything ELSE about Storyline 2's html5 output seems improved.
If you find that embedded videos don't play as expected in Articulate Storyline 2 courses when you view the HTML5 output in iOS 8. This issue was fixed in Update 1 for Storyline 2.
I just checked and it looks like that's the version I'm on. Still no dice, unfortunately. The project originally started life as a Storyline 1 project, could that be the issue?
Thanks for the update. I havent heard of this from a SL1 upgrade. Could you post the file here, or at least the slide with the video, so I can try and play it on my iPad?
The videos are h.264 encoded .mp4s, which I believe is pretty standard. We could export/convert them to something else if Storyline has a preference.
Emily, there's got no problem sharing the file, but since it's actually content that gets included with a paid product, we don't want to post it on the fairly-public forums. Could I email it in or similar?
Thanks. I've asked because I've seen variance behavior in MP4's depending on what they were encoded with.
Every so rarely I'll get a bad "MP4" that won't play nice in Storyline. So I'll put in another video program (like Replay or FormatFactory) and create a new MP4 for importing into Storyline.
For giggles, you might want to try that with one video and see if it makes any difference or not.
I'm having this same problem - mp4 video embedded into a storyline presentation (html5) plays on all desktop browsers and Android mobile browsers but not ios devices.
It's especially weird because this is a recent development - when the presentation was first created (May/June 2015) it was tested extensively on iphone and ipad and everything was working.
Now, the video shows up as the first frame but then loads forever (with the swirly loader). Other than that, the rest of the slide displays as it should.
I wanted to share this documentation as well in case this is relevant for you as well. I apologize for not including it in my initial response.
You may find that videos in your Articulate Storyline 2 courses don't always play as expected in HTML5 output when viewed on Apple iOS 9 iPads and iPhones. We added support for iOS 9 in Update 7 for Storyline 2. See this article for details on how to update your Storyline software and your published courses.
Add me to the list. I have a small MP4, 22 seconds long. Plays fine on desktop browsers, but just sits stalled on the first "frame" of the video when viewed on an iPad. I do have update 7 installed. The video that won't play is 16:9 but other 4:3 videos do play. Makes me wonder if it's something with the wide aspect ratio format.
Are you utilizing iOS9 as well? Have you republished the content?
If you have a sample file that we could take a look at for testing, that would be great. If you cannot share it here in the forums, you are welcome to share privately here.
There's really no reason to share the source. It's just an MP4 playing in the timeline. If you want the actual video, LMK and I'll give you a link to where someone can download it for their own tests.
I can try to test when I get a chance then. My first thought is that videos do not auto-play in HTML5 typically. So, how is the trigger set to play the video? Does it need to be tapped on to play? That makes the video go away, so what is the trigger that is driving that?
Both aspect ratios play in my example. I would advise sharing a bit more information about your set-up, publishing, and your file so that we can understand your issue further.
I too am running into the issue of the videos not playing on iOS devices. I have upgraded to the latest version of Storyline and both iOS devices are running 9.3.2. The url is http://ifapa.org/rppsVideo/story.html

Hello Brett,
Thanks for the update. I havent heard of this from a SL1 upgrade. Could you post the file here, or at least the slide with the video, so I can try and play it on my iPad?
Just curious, what format are the original videos in?

Hello Brett!
You can try the suggestion that Gerry stated. I also sent you a suupor case that you can add your file to be viewed off the forums.
Look for an email form support@articulate.com.

Hi Craig!
Have you had a recent iOS update?
Would you be able to share your .story file with our team here?
Hi Craig!
I wanted to share this documentation as well in case this is relevant for you as well. I apologize for not including it in my initial response.
Hi Leslie,
Thanks for your reply. You were right, it was an iOS 9 compatibility issue. Reproducing the presentation with update 7 resolved the issue.
Very good Craig. Glad I was able to share the information you needed (since I almost forgot). Just let us know if you need any further assistance.

Yes, iOS9.2. Take a look at www.goldsealgroundschool.com/sample. It's the video in the third slide. Will play in flash, but not in HTML5.
Thanks for sharing Russ. I am able to see the behavior you are reporting.

Look at the similar video in slide 5. Only real difference is the aspect ratio. It plays fine.
Thanks Russ!
