Hyperlink to .pdf file on a website not working

Jun 03, 2015

has anyone had success creating a hyperlink to a pdf on another website. When I publish it in my staging environment in my LMS and click on the link, the screen flashes but doesnt appear. When I test the link in Storyline 2, I get a pop up at the website that asks me if i want to open or save, and then it lets me open it. Is there a combination of settings I can use to link to this pdf? It is on a compliance website and I don't want to pull down the pdf and make it static in case they update the content on the website.

This is the link: http://www.azahcccs.gov/shared/downloads/NOA/LanguageGuide.pdf

Hi Theresa,

That sounds like the normal behavior when opening a PDF of a website - so that the user has a choice if they'd prefer to open it right away or save it first. I don't believe there is a way around this behavior in Storyline, but if someone in the community has done otherwise, hopefully they'll pop in here to share!

Hi Ashley, it works correctly (meaning giving me the option to open / save) when i am validating it in storyline. When I publish it and load it to test it does not work. all that happens when the link is clicked, is that a new browser window opens for a minute and disappears. All my other links to sites are working, it is just when the particular .pdf link is clicked it does not work. I have tested it in stormcloud also and it still fails to open or offer me the option to open / save

Hi Therese,

No worries about the reply - either way works, as the replies are not thread in the the forums.

I took the link you shared above, and placed it as a hyperlink on the slide itself (you'll see the text, and a trigger set up for it) and also within the Resource tab and both worked for me in SCORM Cloud and Articulate Online using Chrome.  Can you test those ones out for me and if they don't open for you, let me know what browser you're using and if there could be any security restrictions that would prevent the PDF from opening?
