hyperlink to pdf not working after publishing to web

May 28, 2014

Hi,

I have linked a pdf file to a slide and published to the web to test it and allow my client to view the finished product remotely before they upload to their LMS.  The linked file appears in the published folders just fine but it does not work when the content is run (i.e. when you click on the button to open the pdf nothing happens)

I have read a tonne of info on this exact problem in these forums but nothing appears to answer this clearly except that it may be a security issue with the web browsers we are using?

Can anyone shed any light on this.

thanks!

Pepe

Hi Pepe,

It sounds like you're testing the file locally or have your client's test it from their local drive? If you're viewing the published output on the local drive, you'll likely encounter security restrictions from the computer, web browser, Flash Player, and network that'll cause various features of your content to fail. To test your published content and share it with others, upload it to the environment for which it was published.

If you're not yet ready to upload it to the LMS, you could also use a site like SCORM Cloud which is an industry standard testing method for SCORM content or one of the web server options mentioned in this article.
