Hyperlink to PDF not working on Chrome

Jun 24, 2014

HI,

I am having trouble trying to make the Hyperlink to PDF file work on Chrome.

Our designed course will be distributed and viewed offline and we have some hyperlinks to PDF files which has been embedded in the course using Hyperlink Wizard. Links work fine with IE and Firefox but on chrome a hand appears and nothing happens when you click on it. I've tried enabling all Active X security options in case that's preventing the link to open but no luck. Any other suggestions?

Thank you very much.

Hi Shahzad,

How did you publish the course - using the "publish to CD" option?  If you're using one of the other publish options and then testing the published output locally you may be encountering security restrictions. Also, I'm not sure what you mean by "hyperlink wizard" - are you referring to the hyperlink option within Storyline or something you've used outside of Storyline?

Hi Ashley,

Thanks for the reply. I've published the content using 'Publish to Web' option because we want users to be able to view contents offline without the Flash player.

I've now published to CD option and its working ok but it would be ideal if we can make it work with Chrome. I've received an email from Articulate Support team saying that this is a bug in Integrated Flash Player for Google Chrome. see below

Published content not working on Chrome

I am not sure when this bug will be solved :-(

Thanks,

Shaz

Hi Shaz,

If you'd like users to be able to view the courses offline, you'll want to use the publish to CD option instead of publish to web.  We don't have a timeframe for when the bug will be solved, and as detailed in that article:

Until Google corrects this issue, use any of the following workarounds:

  • Use a different web browser to view published content on your local computer.
  • Or, install an earlier version of Flash Player for Google Chrome.
  • Or, best of all, upload your published content to a web server or LMS. We don't officially support viewing published content on the local computer (unless you've published for CD). Local security restrictions from your computer, web browser, Flash Player, and network can cause various features of your published output to fail.
