Hyperlinks are driving me crazy!

Oct 12, 2017

I'm in Storyline 360 and making hyperlinks have been a PITA forever. This is what happens.

1. I select the text, go to Insert --> Hyperlink

2. I add the title and URL.

3. Invariably, no matter what theme I'm working with, the hover effect makes the hyperlink one huge BLOCK of color.

How do I change the color of the highlight and the color of the text on hover so that people don't see one giant block of color? So that people CAN see a highlight with differentiated text that can be read easily?

Please see pictures.

Hi Jennifer,

Maybe the opacity of your hover is set to 100%.  The hyperlink color is controlled by your theme colors.  You may refer to below article for the instructions:

How to Change Hyperlink Text and Hover Color

There's also a post from Alyssa suggesting another option, i.e. adding hotspots.  You may also want to try this one.

Hope this helps,

Hi Jennifer!

Sorry to hear that you've run into an issue with this. We are actually aware of an issue specific to hyperlinks and the hover color that we are digging into.

I wanted to share some information on how we define bugs and how we tackle them when they occur.

In the meantime, check out this workaround from Alyssa.

I'm adding this forum thread to the report as we track user impact. This will also allow us to pop in and update you when applicable.

I've updated my Articulate 360 and I've been using hyperlinks... sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, within the SAME color theme! Is there a place where I can customize the link hover color??!!

Because right now, I have this problem (see image). I get a random hyperlink that's one black block. FYI, the color of the link itself is white, so it should still appear as white even when the hover color is black, right?

Hi Jennifer,

I'm Marco from FAO.

My hyperlink color is white (so hover should be about  80% of the white color). I set the hyperlink color to white because on a white background I do not want to see any hover color. In order to make the text visible I adjust the font color with the standard font properties to electric blue.

Result: black hover but it should be a WHITE hover.|

I have version 3.12, on version 3.9 everything worked fine.

Hi Marco and welcome to E-Learning Heroes :)

We had a previous issue where the lighter font colors would be difficult to read when hovering based on that 'lighter version of the same color' piece we had in place.

We made a change in Update 11 for lighter text to have a darker hover, which explains why you are experiencing different behavior from Update 9 to 12.

I also wanted to mention that we are now on Update 20, Build 3.20.16814.0, and you can find the most up to date information here.

I have the latest version of Storyline 360 on this machine (just reconfirmed) and this problem of an opaque overlay when mousing over a hyperlink still occurs.

Sure, I could use the "hotspot workaround" but it is mightily unclear why something as basic as this hyperlink issue is still kicking around and the main suggestion from Articulate is to apply a kludge --> Really unimpressed that Articulate has let this continue to be a hassle for users, perhaps most particularly given the subscription model which we are paying for.

Respectfully, please don't reply with a "Sorry to hear about.." or "That must be frustrating..." Of course it's frustrating and, like any of your customers, I just want this to work.

Images attached showing the issue.

I should have been explicit: Can Articulate staff advise me on how to overcome this issue of the hyperlink highlight being opaque instead of transparent? I have been using the suggested kludge of using hotspots but, with many links throughout the project, this is a major pain.

What can I change in settings to make the highlight have transparency?

Hi Greg,

The bug on this discussion related to 'lighter font hyperlinks' was fixed in Update 11.

Your issue is a separate bug we’ve encountered recently where the hyperlink is covered when the text box has an animation effect option of By Paragraph.

As a workaround, if you set the animation effect option to As one object, you can see the hyperlink working properly.

We’re sorry for the inconvenience and will share your voice with our team as we work to fix this bug. I see you have a case open with my teammate, Anna, and encourage you to continue working with her for further assistance.
