Hyperlinks Help

Oct 14, 2020

Hi all - I'm finding adding hyperlinks EXTREMELY frustrating in storyline 3. Everytime I try to add a new hyperlink underneath the one I have it replaces the one above - the one I've just done. I carriage return, and try again, make no difference, I shift/return... makes no difference. I've been using SL3 for a long time but never had to add text hyperlinks... this is awful to work with. I know how to open the hyperlink dialogue and add one, that's about as far as I can get... it keeps replacing the one before.

Does anyone know a better way to work with these without throwing your PC through the window, shaving your head, piercing your nipples and going running naked in the street?

Thanks

Good idea Matthew... but I'm thinking that I saw an issue about this on another thread fro SL2 and Articulate said they were looking into it... I mean... it's pretty fundamental... I'm wondering why is it not sorted yet?  I might have to consider moving to Adobe products instead. Considering it's a hefty price to pay every month for unresolved issues.

Hi Mr. Brown,

I'd like to better understand what you are experiencing. I fear that I'm not recreating what you are seeing, but I'd be happy to take another look.

I've added multiple hyperlinks in a text paragraph, then in a list, to try to recreate what I understood you to explain above, but I'm not running into an error.

Here's my published course and the file is attached.

It sounds like you've experienced this as well, Matthew, so any examples are appreciated.

Hi Leslie... it's ok I've found a workaround. But I'll explain what the issue is in case anyone else has the same "hair shaving" experience :)

Imagine you have a text box... with only a list of hyperlinks in it, nothing else (no normal text)... Now, go to the last list item in your links and press return to add a new link. When you try to add a new link it retains the trigger from the link above it (if you're using the top bar menu add hyperlink).

The only way I've found to counter the problem is to copy the url of the last link's hyperlink address to the clipboard. Then, remove the hyperlink from it so its just normal text now, THEN add your new link text below it (and others if you need to). The key thing here is to add your list of links text (without the hyperlink attached yet) into your text box first, so basically a list of text with no hyperlinks attached. The one you copied to the clipboard can now be re-attached to the link by highlighting the text again and reapplying the hyperlink with a right-click "add hyperlink". Then, you can right-click the other (new) links you want, and do the same with a right-click and add hyperlink.

And that is the way I'm doing it now.... trick is to create your list first, before adding any hyperlink triggers to them. Then do them one at a time with a right-click...etc..

Hope this helps anyone who is experiencing the same thing.

Thanks

Hi Jillian - the trick is to add all the text in the box first (just as text only - no links), then highlight each one (one by one) that you want to be a link and right click > add hyperlink. This is the best way I've found to work around it. If you try adding a link, then pressing return to add another one this is the pain point and doesn't work properly...  for me at least.
