I already publish Storyline and How to show it on iPad

May 03, 2012

I have already created my presentation and published it in Storyline.   When I published, I used the Web, HTML5 Option, Articulate Player and offline selections.

If I was to view this using Safari, I will need to connect to my server and enter in the login process and browse to the location of the folder (that has all of the publish material).   There is also a story.html file which I need to create a link on the ipad to start the process.

I am new to iPad and I would like the ability to view this using Safari and using the Articulate Player to play it locally on the iPad without internet connection.

Using Safari:  I will use Safari to connect and browe to the location of my folder on the server.  Do I next browse one level lower inside the folder and create a link to story.html  ????   Should I click the "Send" button in the browser (box with an arrow acrcing out of it) and select "Add to Home Screen"   I think this create the link and I just active this icon on the home screen - right ???

Using Articulate Player App:  Some where in the help files from Articulate website, there was an article that indicate that I can put my folder into the Articulate Player App.   Do I put the self contained folder in ???

The app indicate it allows a user to view these files locally without internet connection once its been loaded on the iPad ??   I also heard from our Articulate rep that there isn't a local means of playing the HTML5 ???   Which is correct ??

Could I use Articulate Player App to do a USB connection between the iPad and my PC to transfer the folders ???   If that is not possible, GoodReader App will allow be to transfer that over on the USB connection.

Where should I transfer these folders into ??   Should I transfer it into the Articulate Player App folder ???

To display these HTML5 files offline, Do I need to make short cuts to each of the folders ??   I know that I must change the short cut name because they are all using story.html ????    Or can I rename the story.html file to something else ???

Thank You,

G

That was very helpful !

In the future, how do I make that link myself ??   It looks like you put the zip file on a random folder name.   When I do the publish, everything was placed into one main folder name.  Inside this main folder is story.html file.   I looks like you created a folder (with a random name generator), and the zipped file is everything inside that main folder ??  - Right ???

It also looks like you just reference the story.html filename and that was it - right ??

What do I do if I have many presentations to publish.   The program is using story.html everytime.   Do I rename it ???   or just rename the shortcut ????

Can you also answer my question about view it using he Articulate Player App too ???  Like doing it offline ???

Thank You !

If you link to the story.html then it will decide which is the best version to display.  On a PC that will normally be flash on the ipad either safari or the app if it is installed and you ticked use ipad all.

If you have a lot of presentations just upload them to different folders and link to the story.html respectively (you can rename it if necessary).

To download tick allow offline viewing your.  When you view the link the ipad app will open and download the content.

Be aware the content cannot be password protected, and will not track in your lms

If you want to create minimal password protection, one option would be to create a text entry field that has to be answered correctly in order to view the rest of the content.  Check out the quick example that I put together on your iPad:

http://bbatt.articulatetest.com/sl/password/story.html

Try it out.  The password is articulate

I need addition clarification on Phil Mayor post :

"To download tick allow offline viewing your.  When you view the link the ipad app will open and download the content."

What is download tick ???   I am very new to ipad.    This looks like using WiFi for download the file.   So it indicates that if I use the "Articulate Player App", I will be able to download the content locally and view it.

If I want to transfer without using WiFi, Will "Articulate Player App"  allow me to connect to my PC over the USB cable ??   If Yes, what do I do ??

If No, could I use the free app from GoodReader to transfer using USB port between the iPad and PC ??   If this was the case, where to I store the folders at ???   How to I start the display of the folders ???

Thank You All ! ! !

This is the complete post from Phi Mayor.   I bold the section that I need clarification in my previous post.

Sorry, I hit the wrong key in the above.

I have a follow up question on tempshare.   In the video on how to use it, Arlyn indicated to e-mail the full path to myself.   How do I execute the link on the iPad ??   (I am very new to iPad).  In Windows, I could just make a short up to that link.

Thank You !

Hi Gary,

I've got my email setup on the iPad.  So, after I upload the content to tempshare, I'll email the link from my Desktop to myself.  Then, I'll open the email up on my iPad & click the link.  You can create a short URL to the content & then just type it into the address bar in Safari on your iPad.  It's completely up to you.

Hi Gary,

Can you try uploading the file again via a different browser & see if it works?  If it doesn't, please verify that you created the ZIP file the correct way.

Gary Wong

Which web broswer do you recommend for my XP Pro OS ??   I would still like to use my IE 8 as the primary broswer.

Is one those also a free browser too ???

Did someone try it using IE 8 ???    I am sure I did the zip correctly, I use the tempshare tool itself to generate the zip file.   I send it to

you support e-mail under case #00276763 .    Are you able to look at that ???

The error to me indicates plupload.full.js   has an issue.

Thanks,

Gary

Hi Gary,

There are many free browsers available.  Just do a search for Firefox or Google Chrome.  There's likely a security setting in IE that is preventing the site from working as expected.  Please try another browser and let us know if it works for you.

Regarding your support case, our team will follow-up with you via email.

I uploaded Zipped file into lms it was working on pc and whenever I try to run the course on I-pad it was taking much time to load and atlast it was loaded and audio not coming and also next and previous buttons are not working as I expected. Please help thank you.

Thanks for the additional info, Naga. Without actually seeing your source file (the .story file), it's hard to say whether you're experiencing something unexpected, or whether you're bumping into HTML5's inherent slow-loading limitations. On iPad in HTML5, media-heavy content will load slower than Flash output on a PC.

Are you able to share a link to your course, or send us your file so we can make sure there's nothing funny going on?

In my case we have multple users (over 100) who want to view courses using their ipad. How do i go about this because this process would be too lenghty. I have published the course on my LMS (Net Dimensions) and it works perfectly well. I dont know how to go about launching these courses on their ipads, iphones for them at once. If it was only me then i would use tempshare, but for so many users im sure there is an easy way out.

P.S. i published my course on the LMS and not online.
