I cannot return to the base layer from the layers. What am I doing wrong??

May 07, 2021

Hi, I have created a base layer and added layers. I want the user to be able to click back to the base layer when they have read the layer. I cannot get this to work! I have tried adding a trigger to be able to 'hide layer' but the objects on the layer do not appear as options in the trigger dropdown (only objects on the baselayer). It also does not return to the base layer when you click on it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. It is driving me mad!! I have tried following the advice on the similar posts but, for some reason, it is not working for me. Many thanks in advance for your time.

Howdy! This seems to be working for me, however I have to click on the green background in order to hide the added layer. That's because you have the trigger associated with Main Body 1 at the bottom of your timeline. If you want the learner to be able to click anywhere on the screen in order to hide the layer, try adding either a Hotspot over the entire layer, or an empty/invisible rectangle and attach the trigger to that (and make sure the hotspot or rectangle is at the top of your timeline).

Thanks Jordan. You're right - it works when I click the green but not the other areas. Apologies - I am still very new at this. When you say that it is because I have the trigger associated with the Main Body 1, how can I create a trigger on the layer to move back to the base layer. I have added the orange cevrons which I tried to add a trigger to but it doesn''t appear on the trigger dropdown options.

No worries! If you want to use the chevron to return to the base layer, you simply have to change the trigger (in the screenshot, I'm using the layer Normal). Hide layer this layer When the user clicks Chevron 1. Just make sure you are viewing the Normal layer (by clicking the layer under Slide Layers) in order to see those options.

Also, just a note about that chevron: it will be very difficult for a learner to click the chevron since it is a vector object. A learner would have to click the very tiny orange line of the chevron, which can be hard to do. I would insert a Hotspot (Insert > Interactive Objects) and place that over the chevron, then attach the trigger to that Hotspot. I've done that for you in the attached file so you can see what that would look like.
