Shape state that makes the shape totally disappear?

Sep 05, 2017

I've created a dashboard slide for a non-linear module in Storyline 360. I have what is basically a splash page that I want to appear the first time that users come to the dashboard slide that links them to instructions and then will be hidden every other time they come back to the dashboard because they have already seen the instructions.

It seems like a visited state is the best way to do this, BUT, I can't find a way to make a state that has the shape totally disappear.

I've made a short video showing my project and giving a description of what I'm trying to do: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwQV-GHmbsgYR2FSNFJKM3p0U2M/view?usp=sharing

Is it possible to create a visited state where the shape just disappears? If not, now can I do this manually with other variables?

Hi Teresa,

you might not know it, but you can actually delete all items from a new state. So you could create your own blank state. But you could also trigger an item to change its state to hidden, when the user clicks/variable changes/whatever. I guess your dashboard slide properties are "resume saved state" and then this should work.

Hope one of this helps. :)

Thank you so much Susi. I spent a while trying to find the hidden state with no success, so then I just created a state where the object was deleted. It wasn't until I tried to trigger the state that I finally found it.

So, for those trying this yourself, this is the important part:

1. Create your shape/object/etc
2. Add a new trigger
3. For the Action choose Change State of
4. for the To State field, you will now have the option Hidden

For Action field, choose Change State Of. Then, Hidden will be avaiable in the To State field.
