I Pad, Tablet & Mobile Phones

Aug 24, 2016

Hi Everyone, I have been creating course for years now on Storyline 1 & they work perfect on my LMS & P.C. , but the demand for my course's on Ipad, Table & Mobile is increasing & they don't work near as well as on a P.C. Its very slow to load, some of the buttons do not work & timing issues etc,  along with other problems. I always click the HTML5 & use Mobile App  when publishing.

Am I doing anything wrong or how can I rectify this?

The best thing you can do is (if you're not already) to immediately begin testing both the Flash and HTML5 versions of your courses before release, this way you have a good idea of how each course is going to playback, you can tweak/fix things like buttons timing issues etc before releasing your course and there won't be any surprises.

Storyline 1 was the first generation of the product as far as publishing for HTML5 and while it was decent it may be part of the reason you're seeing some slowness.

Storyline 2 has much improved HTML5 publishing, not perfect but much improved over SL1, and Articulate has emphasized that HTML5 is their focus for future versions so I expect it to continue to get better.

I would suggest you consider fixing timing issues and buttons, etc., for the courses that will have the biggest impact (most traffic, long shelf life, etc.). The older, less used courses will eventually phase themselves out.

I would also suggest looking at an upgrade to SL2 for improved HTML5 publishing.

Hope this helps,

if we upgrade to SL2 will our SL1 projects have to be redone, or can they be converted easily to the SL2 versions

We haven't done much converting from SL1 to SL2 so I can't really speak to this, but there are some articles here that may be helpful - https://www.articulate.com/support/storyline-2/c/?term=storyline+1

One other factor to consider may be the mobile compliance of your LMS

Agreed, always a big plus. The thing I'd be looking for in a new LMS right now would be xAPI compatibility, which our LMS still doesn't have.

We've done pretty good though publishing to SCORM 1.2 and HTML5 (no articulate mobile player), and letting the mobile browsers handle the course to LMS communication.
