Icons dissapearing after state change via Hotspot

Feb 07, 2018

I have a slide with 3 buttons made of icons and hotspots. Each icon has a hotspot on top of it with a trigger that changes the state of a given icon and shows a layer.

When I click on hotspot-button 2 and 3 they disappear. The same goes for the hotspot-buttons I have on two layers.   For some reason hotspot-button 1 works all the time.

Furthermore, it happens when I preview in Storyline but after uploading to Articulate Review and testing in Chrome the icons do not disappear. When I test it in Firefox they do disappear.

I have tried changing names of States, moving triggers and moving hotspots under or below the icons but it keeps happening.

I am at a loss as to what to do.

Hi Erik,

Thanks for reaching out and sharing your links here.

I was testing it and wanted to make sure I'm seeing the same thing as you - when I click on those objects in Preview or the Review link in Firefox, the hover state stops appearing, but the icon itself is still present? Can you check what update of Storyline 360 you're using? The latest would be v3.12.14647.0.

You mentioned one object still works for you? It looks like your info icon is set up with different triggers than your other two, so I'm guessing that is the one that consistent works for you?

Hi Ashley,

I am using the latest version of Storyline.

When I click on 'Hotspot instruks 1' and 'Hotspot Print 1' the icons under them disappears on Firefox.

'Hotspot instruks 1' opens a layer called 'Instruks'. On that layer is also a hotspot with an icon called 'Icon 1' That icon disappears upon revisiting. The same thing happens on the layer 'Information'.

The info icon had a different trigger because I wanted to see it the behaviour changed when changing trigger but it does not.

The trigger that was consistent is 'Hotspot Information 1' but just as I tested it again now, that icon also disappears.

I hope it makes more sense now.

Hi Erik,

Thanks - that definitely helped. I saw the same thing in Firefox testing your file, and was able to stop the icons from disappearing upon removing your Hover triggers, although of course they're things you need! So I looked at adding them back one at a time, and that's when it broke again. I'm going to start a support case for you so that our Engineers can take a look and determine what's going on in your file - as it's odd it's only occurring in Firefox!

Keep your eyes peeled for an email from Support@articulate.com!

HI - I'm having a similar problem but in Chrome. I have 4 images with triggers to open a layer. The images have hover and visited states. When I click on them, the layer opens but when I return to the base layer the image has disappear - although the trigger still works. This just started happening in the most recent build. If i open the same project on my other laptop - which does not have the most recent build it is fine.

HI - just an update on this. I've been doing some further testing. The issue occurs if there is an outline applied to the state. Currently I have a normal state, visited state and hover state. If I hover over the  image it disappears. If I remove the outline from the hover state it is fine. Similarly if I click on the image it disappears, but if I remove the visited state it is fine.  See test file here:

The first graphic has an outline on the visited state, the second on the hover state and the third no outline (which is how it is supposed to behave)

Hi all,

The issue where hover states wouldn't always work in HTML5 output has been fixed in today's update of Articulate 360. In those cases, they might work only one time, or they might cause an object to disappear.

There were a few other important fixes and new features that you'll see in the release notes here.

Just launch the Articulate 360 desktop app on your computer and click the Update button for each application. Details here.
