IE 10 Compatibility view issue
Nov 18, 2015
My company uses a mix of in-house eLearning and vendor created eLearning. Recently we had some issues with people not being able to launch all eLearning courses through our LMS. We were able to figure out that people needed compatibility view on to access all Storyline courses. Unfortunately, I don't have access to all the Storyline files to compare the difference myself. Any ideas what setting while publishing might allow some courses to function fine with compatibility view off and other to not work?

Hi Kyle,
Do you have access to any of the source files that are causing issues? If so, could you share one here, or even a shortened file for us to take a look?
Hi Kyle,
So none of the Storyline courses were loading? Do you know what update they were published with? I know a number of users shared that they had difficulty with IE and Storyline not loading, and Update 7 of Storyline 2 resolved a lot of those issues. I can't think of a specific setting - but perhaps it's something in the content that is forcing compatibility view?
You may also want to look at testing it in SCORM Cloud which is an industry standard for testing SCORM content.
@Emily - Hi! Here is a shortened and stripped down version of one of the courses that is causing issues.
@Ashley - Hi! The problem courses were published with Storyline 2 update 7. I was able to upload and lunch the problem courses in SCORM Cloud.
Thanks Kyle for sharing the file here with us. When you uploaded to SCORM Cloud did it all work successfully in IE10 for you and your users?
Yes the course did work successfully in IE 10 when I uploaded it to SCORM Cloud.
Thanks Kyle for sharing that - if it worked in SCORM Cloud and it's a recent issue you've seen in your LMS you'll want to reach out to them in regards to any changes that would force the user to see it in compatibility mode.
There were no recent changes to the LMS. The changing variables here are new in-house eLearning developers and using Storyline. Previous in-house training was being developed by SMEs and HR-IT folks using Toolbook. Any Storyline courses that were previously housing in the LMS were developed by 3rd party vendors.
Thanks Kyle for clarifying. I don't know of any settings that the new developers could have changed that would allow for a difference in behavior within your LMS and IE10. I'm going to reach out to a few other members of our team to see if they're aware of something else. I'll be in touch here once I have any additional information to share.
Hi Kyle,
I discussed this with a few members of my team and one suggested you may want to look into any changes in the group policy as detailed here. That would likely be the case if you're also seeing the older courses from your 3rd party vendor also opening in compatibility mode.
If you're only seeing this in the new courses are you able to share a link to a current course that is showing it in compatibility mode and one that is also showing it normally (likely the ones from your 3rd party vendor)? If we can see those links from within your LMS our team may be able to see if there is anything that stands out - as again if it worked normally within SCORM Cloud it's likely something within the LMS system than the course content.
