IE6 - Considerations and help

Oct 22, 2014

Hi everyone

One of my clients has IE6 & IE8,Aa accessibility standards to comply to and a 'no flash' mandate, as well as needing mobile device support. We are using Storyline 2 (yay!) but I was after some useful suggestions or things to look out for when dealing with IE6 and building courses that can still be dynamic and interesting but will comply and work on IE6 and above as well as mobile. I assume a number of limitations, but would be great to hear any soundbites or cautionary tales from the community.

Thanks for your help in advance

Olivia

IE6 is not a supported browser for Storyline 2. Only flash content will display on IE8 has its HTML5 support is dire

Hi Phil

Good news is we don't need flash, but won't Storyline 2 with an html output rather than html5 still work on IE6 (as Storyline 2 does both)? If not, will Storyline work? I'm sure I used it many moons ago for IE6.

Thanks

Olivia

Hi Olivia,

It sounds like Phil has you covered here - and I did want to point out that the system requirements and viewing requirements for Storyline 2 are detailed here and that's where you'll be able to see the supported browsers.

Also, a site such ashttp://html5test.com/ will help you see how different browsers can handle HTML5 content, and IE8 is not well rated, which is why we have identified in our requirements the browsers that are known to work well with HTML5 and our content.

Hi Kendra,

Yup - you can see all the supported browsers for SL2 here.  You mentioned it's only two users, are they getting stuck at the exact same spot? By stuck do you mean that they can't continue past that point, as if it's a frozen course? Or does the browser shut down? Are they able to test it in another browser or from another computer/device?
